Structure
The Senior Director, Gift Planning is an exempt (salaried) position employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Assistant Vice President of Gift Planning.
Focus
The Senior Director is a fundraising professional who focuses on identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects, stewardship services for existing donors, and coordination and execution of annual marketing initiatives within the UC Foundation’s Office of Gift Planning. The Senior Director works collaboratively with college and unit-based development officers, outside legal and financial advisors, and donors to ensure a robust and successful gift planning program across the University of Cincinnati (UC) and the UC Health.
Specific Duties
- Strategize and collaborate with internal colleagues and external professional advisors to support UC/UC Health’s gift planning efforts and maximize interactions with major gift prospects.
- Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects to cultivate, solicit and secure current and deferred gifts to support the priorities and needs of the UC/UC Health with respect to complex gifting techniques and tax issues, such as charitable gift annuities, donor advised funds, charitable remainder trusts, revocable gifts made through living trusts, estate planning instruments, and current tax legislation.
- Apply specialized gift planning knowledge to evaluate donors’ financial situations and goals to recommend optimal gifting options.
- Utilize specialized software to prepare gift agreements, as well as documents to establish charitable gift annuities, charitable reminder trusts, charitable lead trusts, and other forms of planned gifts.
- Travel to meet with prospects and donors for visits, as well as events.
- Prepare and present planned giving proposals to major gift donors and prospects.
- Manage and execute gift planning marketing efforts utilizing a multi-channel marketing approach.
- Assist AVP in educating UCF development officers, as well as the broader UC/UC Health community, on issues surrounding planned and other major gifting techniques.
- Partner within the gift planning team and coordinate across the organization on providing educational events for prospective donors, such as seminars and training.
- Acquire and maintain a high level of gift planning technical proficiency.
- Prepare timely contact reports and ensure the accuracy of monthly reports.
- Participate fully in the UCF prospect and clearance process.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 7-10 years of experience, or advanced degree with 5-7 years of experience. Masters preferred.
- Demonstrated, effective client/donor relationship building.
- The position requires a thorough knowledge of charitable gift planning, and federal regulations that impact the process of charitable gift planning.
- Excellent communications skills, including the ability to write and speak with precision and clarity about gift planning subjects and the ability to adjust language and tone to fit the audience.
- Demonstrated exercise of independent judgment, serious attention to detail and thoughtful interaction with donors and prospects.
- Ability to manage a portfolio of high-level clients/donors with a high degree of personalized/custom relationship interaction and support.
- Ability to train and motivate gift officers in the area of gift planning.
- Ability to interact favorably with a diverse group of individuals and to foster strong, productive relationships.
- Ability to collaborate across Foundation, University and University healthcare system to optimize philanthropic giving for principal gift donors.
- Willingness to travel and attend evening and weekend activities as needed. Valid driver’s license required for travel.

What We Offer
The anticipated starting salary range for the Senior Director, Gift Planning role is $110,000 to $130,000 annually. When determining final offer amount the UC Foundation considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as, market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.
